Michael LaHaie was born and raised in Michigan and studied film at San Francisco State University. Michael later moved onto New York and Miramax Films where he worked on original documentaries for television as well as a promotional documentary for John Pierson's book, Spike, Mike, Slackers & Dykes. Eventually, Michael left Miramax to edit the pilot of Split Screen and has gone on to become the full-time editor, co-producer, and occasional segment director for the show.

Current editing projects outside of Split Screen include the documentaries "How's Your News?" (produced by Doug Stone) and "Hell House" (directed by George Ratliff).
